The Youth Program Juventas held a five-day seminar aimed at strengthening the capacity of student parliaments in Montenegrin high schools in Kolasin, from 3rd to 7th of December 2012. Working and socializing in snow conditions were accepted by the whole team.

Twenty high school students, boys and girl, from Secondary Mixed School “Danilo Kiš” (Budva), Grammar School “30. Septembar” (Rozaje), Secondary School of Electrical Engineering “Vaso Aligrudic” (Podgorica) and Secondary Mixed School “Beco Basic” (Plav), gathered with the intention to find ways to strengthen their school communities. After the initial welcoming, introductions and interesting games, the participants started to work more seriously, presenting their student parliaments and the activities they deal with. In this way, the entire team of seminars was enabled to inspect how the student parliaments of the schools involved function. Lectures and trainings in the field of activism and participation of young people (Jelena Dacic), legislative framework in the field of student parliaments in Montenegro and examples of good practice (Marija Ruzic), research results (Ivana Vujovic), project writing (Bosko Nenezic), public relations, advocacy and lobbying (Milena Kalezic), were extremely useful to all participants. In addition, guests from the Youth and Sport Directorate (Bojana Bulatović and Krsto Vukadinović) and the Union of High School Students of Montenegro (Filip Kecina) introduced high school students with their organizations and activities that are being implemented in order to strengthen the youth at the national level, which also represented an essential part of this training.

During the seminar, special attention was paid to the training of high school students on writing and implementing projects. Divided by schools, the participants created ideas for projects and mostly wrote them. This training is rated as the best and most useful for the future functioning of student parliaments.

UP projects will be completed by the end of this year and implemented after the winter break. We believe that during the implementation of these school projects, the participants of the seminar will join their friends and schoolmates, which will certainly contribute to the better quality of their implementation.

The project “Gather the team” was financially supported by the Balkan Trust for Democracy.
