In mid-September 2014, Juventas and its partners started the implementation of the second phase of the project “Assistance programme for the integration and return of RAE and other I/DPs residing in the Konik neighborhood”. The project is mostly financed by the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro (EUR 1,000,000), then the Government of Montenegro (EUR 112,000), the Roma Education Fund (EUR 36,448), UNHCR (EUR 47,928), the Red Cross of Montenegro (EUR 21,843) and the Danish Refugee Council (EUR 10,000). The main applicant is HELP (Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe e.V), while the partners are Juventas, the Roma Education Fund, the Legal Center, the Red Cross of Montenegro and the Danish Refugee Council.

The main objective of the project is to  ensure lasting and sustainable integration of RAE and other I/DPs living in the Konik area in Montenegro (for those who want to stay) and in countries of origin (for those who want to return), while the specific project goal relates to resolving the legal status of Roma and Egyptians and other displaced persons from the Konik region in Montenegro or voluntary return to Kosovo, which enables them to achieve social inclusion in society and have improved access to their rights to primary health care, employment and education. The project will be implemented for a period of 20 months.

There are 1800 Roma and Egyptians (300 households) in Konik camps, of which 300 women and 567 children, as well as about 500 other extremely vulnerable displaced persons. The previous phase of the project contributed to meeting the needs of Roma and Egyptians and other displaced persons when it comes to their voluntary return to Kosovo or local integration into Montenegrin society. We believe that the realization of phase II of this project will bring even better results.
