IRL posjeta konjickom klubu

On Tuesday, 22 November 2015, in cooperation with NGO HELP, NGO Juventas organized a visit for children from Konik Camp I and II to the Special Police Unit, or the Police Team on horses.

In the past two years, NGO Juventas implemented a number of activities for children from refugee Camp Konik I and II as an integral part of the organization's work. Activities are being carried out with children, with the aim of achieving a successful social integration of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro. Many activities have been carried out, including visits to the institutions in Podgorica. We recognized the Police as one of those institutions of great importance and we wanted the children and young people to get acquainted with the way in which this it operates. In addition, we consider that this type of socializing, which is both recreational and educational, will be significant for better social integration of children.

The visit held on the grounds of the Equestrian Club “Vranac” in Gornja Gorica in Podgorica was attended by 49 children and young people from Camp Konik I and II. They had the opportunity to attend an interesting and educational presentation of the activities carried out by the Special Police Unit, when it comes to a police team on horses and a team that trains dogs for the police.

On this occasion, we would like to thank the Special Police Unit for positivelyresponding to our request  and recognizing the significance of this kind of activity.

We would like to note that since 2012, NGO Juventas has been a partner in the project entitled “Assistance Program for the Integration and Return of RAE and other I/DPs living in the Konik neighborhood” funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro with the assistance of the Government of Montenegro. The main objective of the project is to contribute to the implementation of the Strategy for the Permanent Resolution of Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Montenegro with a special focus on the area of Konik.

Young Roma who live in refugee camp Konik visited the National Park Lovcen where they spent a nice day with their colleagues from Juventas, enjoying everything that this park has to offer. The trip had primarily an educational character. Children, accompanied by teachers and curators, visited the museum and trails in the National Park, and learnt more about the specificities of plant and animal species from the area, the history of the park and the history of Lovcen.

As part of this one-day trip and visit to the National Park, children had the opportunity to visit the Adventure Park, and along with Juventas’s assistants and instructors from the Adventure Park, tried the tracks through which they overcame various obstacles adapted to their abilities. For the first time they experienced the tracks in the adventure park, but with the support of the assistants and the team of instructors, they managed to successfully overcome all the obstacles and had a unique experience that will be remembered for a long time.

This gathering, as well as all the activities that Juventas conducts at Camp Konik, are part of the project “Assistance for Integration and Return of RE and other I/DPs living in Konik neighborhood”, which has been implemented in the Konik neighborhood with the Roma population since November 2012. The activities of this project are particularly important, above all, because they open the possibility for marginalized groups to participate in social life. Given that many of them have been deprived of the chances for normal social life, this project aims to contribute to the social integration of Roma and their inclusion in social and cultural events.

At the beginning of October 2015, two educational workshops were held with Roma children living in Camp Konik on the topic of traffic safety, in the framework of the project “Assistance for integration and return of RE and other I/DPs living in Konik neighborhood - Phase II”.

Educational workshops on traffic were held with the aim of bringing children closer to the behavior of pedestrians/participants in traffic in order to gain basic knowledge about everyday traffic culture, how to behave safely, so that they do not endanger themselves or other participants in traffic, about the traffic signs, pedestrian crossing, traffic light, etc. Juventas's assistants brought children closer to traffic rules in a creative way. Namely, after visiting the train and bus stations, they would organize a gathering, where children were offered cakes and juices and could ask assistants some additional questions. The children had the opportunity to socialize, have fun, but also learn about traffic through practice.

Within the project “Assistance for Integration and Return of RE and other I/DPs living in Konik neighborhood”, NGO Juventas team and students of social work and social politics who are undertaking a student practice in Juventas, carried out several informal activities with Roma children in the first half of June.

After six months of teaching at psychosocial workshops, Juventas provided children with a range of fun activities, in order to make them familiar with social and entertainment content that is not otherwise available on a daily basis through socializing.

These activities, including excursions and visits to the bowling alley, the cinema and the Rugby Club “Lovcen” that were organized for the children, were envisaged for children to learn that they have equal rights as other children and to experience the contents outside of the camp.

A special experience for children was a visit to the rugby club “Lovcen” and a joint training with the helpful hosts who also organized a small pedagogical workshop on behavior on the field and outside, as well as attitude towards others.

At the training, children were introduced with the rules of rugby games and learned about the importance of teamwork and socializing, as well as sports and fair behavior. As the hosts have said, the principles of this game are as important as life principles - cooperation, mutual support, respect for others are irreplaceable in building healthy relationships and a better society.

This activity is part of the second phase of the project “Assistance for Integration and Return of RE and other I/DPs living in Konik neighborhood”. This project is primarily important because it enables marginalized groups to participate in social life. Given that many have been deprived of the chances for a normal social life, the project aims to contribute to the social integration of Roma and their inclusion in the social and cultural events.

As part of the activities implemented by NGO Juventas with young Roma, another gathering was organized. This time it was a visit to the cinema at the Delta City Mall. Young Roma living in the refugee Camp Konik, together with their colleagues from Juventus, volunteers and students of social work and social politics that are undergoing a student practice in Juventas, had an opportunity to see the screening of the animated film “Sponge Bob Square Pants” in the Cineplexx cinema.

Since this was the first visit to the cinema for some children, they had the opportunity to learn from the employees how the cinema worked, how the movies are screened, how to buy tickets, and why the movies are loved. After a welcome and introduction, the children walked into the movie theater with enthusiasm and curiosity. After 90 minutes of the movie duration, we had a conversation with children who gave us a lot of positive impressions and showed a visible satisfaction with the movie.

This gathering, as well as all the activities that Juventas conducts at Konik Camp, are part of the project “Assistance for Integration and Return of RE and other I/DPs living in Konik neighborhood”, which has been implemented in the Konik neighborhood with the Roma population since November 2012. This project is particularly important because it opens the  possibility for marginalized groups to participate in social life. Given that many of them have been deprived of having a normal social life, this project aims to contribute to the social integration of Roma and their involvement in social and cultural events.
