In the second phase of the project “Assistance Programme for the Integration and Return of RE and other I/DPs living in Konik Neighborhood”, NGO Juventas continues with the realization of activities that had good results in the first phase and were recognized as useful by the residents of the Konik Camp. These are civil rights workshops intended for children and young people from Konik I and Konik II Camps.

The implementation of the workshops started in November 2015 and it will last until the end of the calendar year. The workshops are held at the PR Center at Stari Aerodrom three times a week for 120 minutes. The activities are carried out by social workers and Roma assistants employed in Juventas.

The workshops consist of three modules through which young people have the opportunity to get to know each other, learn about their rights and responsibilities, as well as their opportunities in education. In the first module, the participants get to know each other, and become familiar with each other’s fears, attitudes and wishes through various games. Also, participants learn the communication skills and ways of achieving it. The second module is dedicated to familiarizing participants with children’s rights, but also with the obligations and responsibilities that they have to others. They learn about the importance to help others and to respect and accept diversity. This module emphasizes the importance of cooperation and learning about languages and cultures of different nations. The third module is based on watching a film about young Roma who are successful in the professional work or who are good students. The aim of the film is to show young people the importance of education through the presentation of positive models.

This activities, as well as all other activities that Juventas conducts at Camp Konik, are part of the project “Assistance for Integration and Return of RE and other I/DPs living in Konik Neighborhood", which has been implemented in the Konik neighborhood with the Roma population since November 2012. The activities in this project are important, above all, for opening the possibility for marginalized groups to participate in social life. Given that many have been deprived of the opportunity to have normal social life, this project aims to contribute to the social integration of Roma and their involvement in social and cultural events.
